Andrei Arshavin, the 27 year old's Euro 2008 performances for Russia were noticed by many people inluding managers of many football clubs. Interest was shown by teams such as Barcelona, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal.
However, the £20 million price tag has been a bit off-putting when you look at his fitness levels, character and temper, which makes you think whether he will be able to cope playing many games at the highest level. And with Arsenal’s youth policy and purchasing rationale, it seems highly unlikely that the Emirates board would meet that valuation anyway.
“The strategy of the club is to sell every year and to buy less expensive players” said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
“We manage at Arsenal to maintain all our football ambitions - national and European - while having to free up - for 17 more years - an annual surplus of £24million to pay for our stadium.”
“The club’s strategy is to favor the policy of youngsters ahead of stars and to count on the collective quality of our game.”
Now, Mr Wenger, who did show some interest in Arshavin initially, is not likely to follow the Russian playmaker's signature.
As the transfer market opens in a couple of months, ArsenalFC.co.nr would like to know your opinion on this matter. Should Wenger scrap the policy and sign the playmaker who would be a good replacement for Alex Hleb or ignore all the hype about Andrei Arshavin or do you believe that the asking value of £20 million is simply ridiculous?

Not sure what country you are from or how much you read about Arsene Wenger's comments.
I know he said there is not much difference between a Euro 20 million player and a Euro 10 million player.
Do you remember Jose Reyes who scored twice for Real Madrid, and helped them win the Spanish League? He couldn't help Arsenal as much as Wenger thought he could so they traded him when they could. Alot of hope was put on The Beast who was great with Sevilla , and then got traded to Real Madrid. He was at Real Madrid for one year or two and Arsenal for a year, but failed to score goals like they thought he might.
Arshavin would be the same deal.
He is good, but the English game is fast. Friends say players who play in the league have no skill, but look at all the Spanish players and Italians who play Premier league.
It is just a different game...
Arhavin may or may not succeed. Look at Roman Pavlychenko's success or failure with Tottenham Hotspur. Pavlychenko seemed to be good, but cause of the coaching problems... really isn't making many changes for a team that once was good.
Well we're based in the city where Arsenal FC originated from although now they are in North London! I try and keep myself updated with as much as I can in the time allowed so yes I may miss some of the Big Mans comments!
Yes Reyes was good but the controversies surrounding him and Real Madrid werent! It just distracted him on and off the pitch.
The Beast, Julip Baptista was physically excellent but did not fit in as well as others would have thought! Although he did give some excellent performances in some games!!
Now, Arshavin, a guy I think would be well incorporated within the squad IF he is given a long rest to start with and then sold at the right price!
Premier League is a different league, correct, and only the best can handle it! It remains to see whether Arshavin will come to England in January!
The reason why the Russian international Roman Pavlyuchenko is not playing well for Tottenham is because he is not fully fit and also tired as the guy has been playing non-stop due to the Russian season starting earlier than the premier league. I believe Ramos is not utilising and incorporating him within the team well. Its a matter of waiting before he will show something... But from an Arsenal fans perspective, I hope he takes longer to settle!
